When making a humble sandwich, the only thoughts you tend have are what toppings you're putting in it. With ham being one of the nation's favourite fillings - have you ever wondered how the popular slices actually end up in your sandwich?

A viral video has emerged of a factory showing how sliced ham is made on the production line, but it has made shoppers vow to never pick up a packet again. Repulsing viewers with the process, the starting product, something viewers originally thought was pink ice cream, appears to be a far cry from what we're used to picking up in the supermarket.

The video was unearthed by TikToker @thatafricanchick2 as it claimed to be shot inside an unknown food factory. As it showed the whole process, many people have now been left in disbelief, with many put off eating it altogether. The video caption read: "I don't want to believe this

The pink slime is scooped into large yellow tubs and pumped into loaf-shaped tins by factory workers, who then heavy-handedly bang the tins to spread the mixture around the tins, which are then placed in the oven to cook. Once cooked, and turned brown, looking like anything but ham, they are placed into a slicing machine.

Dropping into slices of ham, looking more like what we're accustomed to, the slices are then placed into another yellow tub, presumably off to be packaged up and ready to be sold. The video shared by TikToker @thatafricanchick2, discovered the video, and it has racked up over 9 million views from other intrigued watchers.

Many people have expressed their views on the stomach-churning clip, with one TikToker commenting: "I thought it was frosting, then ice cream, then bread then this!!!!" whilst another was left horrified and added: "Now see, I thought that was ice cream they were putting in the pan. I will never ever ever eat meat again I'm going to become a vegetarian."

But others were more impressed at the cleanliness of the factory - knowing that at least it's from a sanitised environment. One user said: "At least the process looks clean, much better than other workplaces that I've seen" and another penned: "Whatever it is, that kitchen is spotless."
