Tesco has recalled several chilled foods over fears pastries contain small pieces of metal and plastic.

The nationwide chain says batches of various chilled foods could be contaminated, and told its customer to not eat any of those believed to have been affected. Anyone who has bought any of the products is told to return them to the store they bought it from.

The contaminated products are Tesco 20 Mini Sausage Rolls with a best before of 29/8.23, Tesco Finest Steak & Ale Pie 250g with a best before of 1/9/23, Tesco 6 Cheese & Onion Rolls 360g with a best before of 31/8/23 and Tesco 9 Mini Sausage Rolls 270g with a best before date of 30/08/23.

An alert by the Food Standards Agency reads: “These products may contain pieces of metal and plastic which makes them unsafe to eat. Tesco is recalling the above products. The company has issued a recall notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

The chain added: “Tesco apologises to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Earlier this month, issued an urgent warning to customers as it a popular snack, as it posed a risk to those with certain allergens.

The products recalled by the chain were its own brand Free From 150g packs of Onion Rings, Cheese Flavour Balls and Bacon Rashers crisps. These products claimed on its packaging that they do not contain gluten, wheat or milk.

However, the recall was due to the products possibly containing gluten, which had not been declared. This poses a risk to those who have an allergen or or who have Celiac disease. This is a condition where your immune system attacks your own tissues when you eat gluten and it stops you from taking in nutrients. Tesco urged shoppers who have purchased the product due to it being gluten-free to not eat it.

The products affected by the recall have the use-by date of December 16 2023 and included all batch codes. Customers were urged to return the products to their nearest Tesco supermarket for a full refund. If you have one of the recalled products, you will not need to have a receipt for the refund.
