Axel Tuanzebe has agreed to link up with Premier League new boys Luton Town after leaving Manchester United earlier this summer.

The 25-year-old came through the academy ranks at Old Trafford but opted to leave the club after the expiry of his contract at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, sparking a scramble for his services.

Tuanzebe had a host of offers on the table, including lucrative proposals from the Saudi Pro League and Turkish Super Lig clubs.

However, the centre-half is hoping to remain in England and will shortly link up with the Hatters, who were promoted via the Championship play-offs last season, in a bid to win a deal.

Tuanzebe was held in high regard at Old Trafford and was even tipped as a future Manchester United captain by former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but has been plagued by injury issues in recent years.

The defender has spent the last few weeks living and training at St Georges Park, home to the country's best facilities. After completing a three-week program without any issues, Tuanzebe is now ready to try and win a deal at Kenilworth Road.

Luton have made a flurry of signings since promotion but endured a tough start their maiden Premier League campaign last weekend when they were beaten 4-1 by Brighton at the Amex.

However, Hatters head coach Rob Edwards wasn't prepared to dwell on the result and urged his side to bounce back. Speaking after the match, Edwards said: “We have to do it our way. We have got a plan, we’ve had that over the last decade or so and had a lot of success.

“We’re now going into what’s probably going to be the biggest challenge the club’s had. We know the scale of the challenge. We’re going to have some tough days.

“I don’t want anyone to be happy about losing football matches – we’re certainly not. I was pleased with stuff I saw today. I know we’re going to get better. But we’ve got to get better quickly.”
