Gary Neville was quick to laugh at Jamie Carragher's Premier League predictions on the opening Monday Night Football of the season.

Neville, Carragher and fellow Sky Sports pundit Karen Carney were asked to get off the fence after Manchester United's 1-0 victory against Wolves on Monday night. Erik ten Hag's side won at Old Trafford thanks to Raphael Varane's late goal.

Wolves were one of the pre-season candidates for relegation but surprised a lot of pundits with their display against Man Utd. They were extremely unlucky not to receive a penalty in the last minute of the game after Andre Onana clattered into Sasa Kalajdzic. Referee chief John Moss has apologised to Wolves manager Gary O'Neil for the howler.

Nevertheless, Wolves' performance at Old Trafford will give them confidence heading into the rest of the season. The display also persuaded Carragher to change his mind on the West Midlands club, as Neville pointed out on Monday night's show.

MNF's three pundits were asked to name their three relegated clubs. Carragher and Karen Carney both said Sheffield United, Luton and Burnley would go down, while Neville believes Bournemouth will join the Blades and the Hatters in the Championship next season.

Neville started giggling after seeing Carragher's prediction. The Man Utd legend added: "I've just realised, he's got Burnley going down. He said Wolves (would go down) about two hours ago. He's changed his mind since they've played today!"

Carragher immediately hit back at Neville for backing Aston Villa to finish above Newcastle. The Liverpool legend laughed: "You're the clown who's just watched Newcastle batter Aston Villa (5-1 at home) and said Aston Villa will finish in fifth!"

Neville was then asked to explain why he thinks Bournemouth, who drew 1-1 at home to West Ham on the opening day of the season, will go down. He replied: "There's no science behind it whatsoever, it's a complete guess!

"There's probably four teams (who could go down with Sheffield Utd and Luton). You're talking about Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Burnley... there's probably three or four teams that could possibly go down and I've just gone for one of them.

"Ultimately, it could be Burnley, it could be Bournemouth - you don't know. There's such a long way to go. We look at these predictions like if we get them wrong, we're really bad at football (laughs). It's unbelievable!"

In terms of their other predictions, Carragher and Carney have backed Manchester City to win a fourth consecutive Premier League title. The two pundits are also in full agreement over the rest of the top four - Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd. Neville accepts that top four but thinks Arsenal will pip Man City to the title after falling short last season.
