Paul McCartney's daughter Stella has opened up on the challenges she has faced during her career as "one of the first Nepo Babies".

The groundbreaking fashion designer has built a name for herself over the years, despite being the daughter of former Beatle Paul and his late wife Linda. She has run her own self-titled fashion brand since 2001 where she has produced sustainable collections. Stella is aware her famous surname helped to give her a head start in the industry, but she has still faced difficulties.

The designer expelled animal products such as fur, leather, feathers and animal hide in her designs. “As one of the first nepo babies I had the privilege of choice. I’m very aware of how lucky I’ve been to be accepted to work in this way since day one,” Stella confessed. The 51-year-old recalled a time where she was urged to use leather in her work.

“I’ve had moments where I’ve been challenged very heavily to change my morals for the success of the company,” she told TIME. Sir Paul also spoke to the publication about his children and how they grew up. He admitted his four children with Linda suffered "a bit of flack" for having such a famous dad.

The Let It Be star also shared how Stella had an early interest in clothing as she used to rummage through his and Linda's wardrobes to create outfits. Stella attended the prestigious art and design college Central St. Martins. Paul added: “She had to prove herself. I said, if she doesn’t do well at the end of that year, then the name is not something to help, it’s a cudgel to beat her with. But she did well.”

The term "Nepo Baby" has become a hot topic online in recent years, with many stars rushing to defend the work they have done in their own right rather than nepotism. The phrase is often used when referring to the children of celebrities who have succeeded in careers similar to their wealthy or celebrity parents.

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis weighed in on the discussion last year as she shared a picture of her famous parents Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh on Instagram. The The Everything Everywhere All at Once star addressed the term in her caption. She wrote: “I have been a professional actress since I was 19 years old so that makes me an OG Nepo Baby. Before adding that “there's not a day in my professional life that goes by without my being reminded that I am the daughter of movie stars."

She continued: "The current conversation about nepo babies is just designed to try to diminish and denigrate and hurt. It's curious how we immediately make assumptions and snide remarks that someone related to someone else who is famous in their field for their art, would somehow have no talent whatsoever. I have come to learn that is simply not true."
