Manchester United have rejected West Ham's bids for Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, though remain in talks over a deal for their former skipper.

The Hammers submitted seperate bids for the Red Devils duo on Monday, offering two £30million deals. Both players are seen as being available for a move, with boss Erik ten Hag having stripped Maguire of the captaincy earlier this summer.

West Ham have already seen one bid rejected for the England international, but they have now returned with an improved offer. In addition, boss David Moyes is also keen to splash the cash brought in by the sale of Declan Rice to sign a new midfielder.

His latest top target is McTominay, but the Manchester Evening News report that United have outright rejected their £30m offer for the Scot. The Red Devils have also turned down the bid for Maguire, with the two deals being separate.

It is said to be doubtful that the Hammers will return with an improved bid for McTominay. But they are considering making a third offer for Maguire, with Moyes desperate for defensive recruits.

United are keen to bring in Sofyan Amrabat, which could open up the door to McTominay leaving. But Kobbie Mainoo's injury in pre-season means United are reluctant to sell unless a prospective buyer meets their valuation.

That valuation is said to be between £40m-£50m, which is also the asking price they have slapped on Maguire. McTominay missed United's final two friendlies of the summer through injury, though Maguire did start against Athletic Bilbao.

But he was booed at the game, held in Dublin, before an awful mistake led to Nico Williams' opening goal. Despite his poor performances, United do not intend to push him out of the Old Trafford exit door.

Boss Ten Hag has pushed Maguire down the pecking order, with Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all ahead of him. The United boss has insisted that there is a place for the England star at the club.

"I think everyone can understand that it is, for a player, a disappointment but it can also work out very good for the team and for Harry. Harry is an important player. We have four centre-backs, we need four centre-backs minimum, maybe one extra," he said in June.

"We saw last season we play so many games so we are really pleased to have Harry in our squad. Because not any more more captaincy, so less responsibility in that perspective but we need more than 11 players, we need that competition.

"He can fight himself in the team, he has the potential, I have said it often. So it is up to him to get this position and now he can focus more on his role but as a centre-back, you have to communicate, you have to organise because that is one of the areas you have to perform as a centre-back."
