Porsche have sparked anger after they airbrushed out a state of Jesus from a new promo advert.

The car giant released a new advert celebrating 60 years of the iconic 911 sports car, filming in Lisbon Portugal. But in the video, the famous Cristo Rei landmark statue was seemingly edited out.

The statue was inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The promotional clip has since been deleted from the company’s YouTube channel. It shows a woman in a red Porsche racing past Lisbon’s 25 de Abril Bridge.

From here you can usually see the iconic Cristo Re (Christ the King) statue looking down over the city. But instead the famous landmark is missing, with Porsche showing the 75ft concrete plinth instead, without the statue on top.

People took to social media to moan and complain about the decision and claiming the car company had “shot itself in the foot” and made a “mistake” as they bemoaned the “woke” company. The promo features the new, limited edition, Porsche 9/11 S/T model which costs £231,600.

One Twitter user, claiming to be a "reactionary uncle", asked the German car company: "Hey, @Porsche, why did you erase the statue of Jesus Christ from your video filmed in Lisbon?" They then linked to the original advert before it was taken down, then went out of their way to reshare the entire video itself, as well as mentioning Twitter boss Elon Musk.

Some users were simply confused as to why it was taken out whilst others berated the “woke” company and even went as far as to claim that it should be boycotted. One said: “That's horrible. For what reason would it be taken out?”

Meanwhile, others questioned the logic of filming here just to edit the statue out. Another said: “They did not have to film this location/angle at all, so many alternative locations that would have taken nothing away from the advert.”

Porsche have been approached for comment.
