An American treasure, this actor was seen looking very different following a dramatic transformation in a brand new role. He'll be playing the lead role in upcoming movie, Dream Scenario.
In these pictures, the National Treasure star was hardly recognisable with a balding head and full, grey beard. He wore a cable-knit sweater and fur trimmed coat. Plus, he had some silver spectacles as a bonus. In another photo, he wore an ordinary and rather basic outfit: a flannel shirt, grey pullover, and beige trousers.
To some fans surprise, the actor is actually Nicolas Cage. The baldness and new beard were apart of a new look he needed for his role while filming.
In the comedy Dream Scenario, he was cast with Michael Cera and Julianne Nicholson. Fans can expect the movie to premiere in September at Toronto's film festival. The film centres around the concept of Internet fame and viral sensations, making satirical jokes about the 21st century problem.
Robyn Citizen, the festival executive and film creator, said: "Cage delivers some of his finest work." Plus, she said that the movie "has sharp, timely observations about social media culture — especially going viral".
Everything new coming to Netflix in January - including Will Smith blockbusterWhile this new look may be jarring to long-time fans, they'll need to remember this isn't the first time he's shocked them with a makeover. When he was playing Dracula in Renfield, he had to truly step into a vampiric look. He was seen with pale skin and long fingernails. This theatrical look also included some slicked-back hair and colourful jewellery.
A complete transformation is just one type of method acting. Nicolas is no stranger to that sort of acting technique. When he was filming Leaving Las Vegas, he reportedly "wanted to do the entire film drunk," said director Mike Figgis.
He said: "He did one scene off his face. He drank a bottle of vodka before it. I was very angry with him because he didn't tell me. Somebody got injured and he smashed the equipment."
One role he didn't need to transform himself too much for was The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent because it was somewhat based on his life.
