Shocking security camera footage shows a bear breaking into a California resident's house while the homeowners were out.
The bear break-in took place in North Lake Tahoe, California. In the video, the bear starts out in the homeowner's living room, before lying down for some time to rest. After roaming around the apartment, the bear heads to the kitchen and searches for some snacks.
Unable to get into the fridge, the bear settles for some pantry grub. The bear eventually tucks into some peanuts and crisps.
Resident Brian Sumner was away on a boat when the event took place on Monday at around 11.00 am.
The bear roamed freely about the apartment (KCRA 3)Brian submitted the footage to KRCA. He told the publication that there was "minimal damage, but [it was] still scary". He thinks that the bear probably entered through a window that he had left cracked open.

KRCA was told by a spokesperson for the Department of Fire and Wildlife that the state of California has only one type of bear, the black bear.
Luckily, no one was harmed during this hairy encounter. However, that is not always the case. In Teton Valley, Idaho, a man was mauled by a bear, who was defensive of her cubs, according to the Idaho Fish and Game officials. When he opened his garage door, the animal attacked. He reportedly refused medical treatment.
The bear laid down for a bit in the house (KCRA 3)The bears eventually turned up near Victor, Idaho at yet another home. They had to be euthanised following the attack. Officials claimed that they killed the bears "in the interest of public safety". Their bodies were then left at the Jefferson County landfill.
In yet another scary incident, a woman was mauled to death west of Yellowstone National Park in July. Apparently, the bear in that instance was a grizzly, different than the one in the security footage.
The park rangers had to issue an emergency closure. The area was popular with hikers so it was critical to make sure they steered clear until it was safe. Montana is said to be having an increasing number of bear sightings, so campers should be cautious.
