This Morning viewers were squirming with embarrassment as they watched Michael Barrymore's 'excruciating' interview. The 71-year-old showed up on the sofa to talk to hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.

The Kids Say The Funniest Things star said he didn't recognise the two presenters during the chaotic segment. "I thought it was Alison and the other one, who are you two??" he joked. "Who are they? I know the names of all the cameramen but I don't know you two."

At one point, he tried to impersonate Craig's Irish accent while Josie tried to get things back on track by saying: "It's my turn now!" Fans immediately rushed to social media to comment on the cringe about the cluttered interview, with one person claiming it was an 'excruciating' watch.

"This is excruciating. Why is Barrymore being so insulting towards Josie, Craig and the show in general? No need," the person said while another added: "Hope Josie and Craig are getting a bonus for this discomfort." Another tried to think of a reason for his strange behaviour and quipped: "I get the feeling Barrymore was told NOT to say Where's Phil and Holly."

After the advert, the former Strike It Lucky presenter became emotional as he spoke about 'stuff he was going through' before attempting to hide his 'tears' and then joking 'crying looks good on camera.' Barrymore was dropped by ITV following the death of Stuart Lubbock at the star's Essex home in 2001. Michael was never charged with any crime and had previously slammed TV bosses who ditched him.

Michael explained: "I couldn't be happier honestly. Everybody has stuff to go through. Do you how I've dealt with that? Sorry I'm getting a bit emotional," before he bowed his head and shied his eyes from the camera. When presenter Josie tried to comfort him, he pushed her away and said 'no no don't do that, the crying looks good on telly', before jumping back into his usual self as Craig quizzed him on whether he'd ever go back to TV.

"I live in TikTok land but never say never about returning to TV," he mused. Michael previously criticised his former bosses during a chat with the Daily Star, explaining: "It’s strange that companies don’t employ innocent people. Maybe you have to be guilty to get a job in TV, I don’t know. From my experience, they don’t employ innocent people. It’s unfair, of course. It’s terrible. You’re supposed to support people. You’re supposed to support the people that work for you."
