Gwyneth Paltrow has announced that she is taking a break from social media, with fans having expressed support after she shared the news.

The actor, 50, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share with her followers that she would be taking some time away from the platform. Gwyneth told her fans that she's "going to work on being present" during her absence from it.

She announced her temporary departure from social media alongside a photo of herself. It showed the Goop founder sitting in a garden. It appeared to have been taken at night and she credited actor John Hickey as the photographer. Alongside the photo, Gwyneth wrote in the caption: "Taking this full moon energy with me as I go into a social media break."

She continued: "Going to work on being present," before concluding: "Happy summer." The post has amassed more than 50,000 likes since it was uploaded on the platform earlier this week. It has been liked by several celebrities, who included fellow actors Jennifer Aniston, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jordana Brewster, Vanessa Hudgens and Naomi Watts.

A number of Gwyneth's followers took to the comments section to react to the post. This included Michelle, who simply responded to the news: "Good for you." Other followers were similarly supportive of the decision, with one comment having read: "Love that you're putting you first."

"I applaud you. Giving yourself a break is self care," wrote another follower in their response. Reacting to the announcement, someone else said: "Glad to hear. Be extra kind to yourself." Whilst another person described Gwyneth's approach as a "wonderful idea," with this sentiment shared by others.

Another follower commented in response to the news: "Have a lovely summer. We'll miss you." Others wrote similar messages to the award-winning actor after she announced her break from social media. Whilst another person said in the comments: "Wish you a wonderful summertime."

Gwyneth - who's starred in films like Shakespeare in Love (1998) and more recently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) - regularly updates fans on the platform. She has been known to post about her lifestyle brand in the past, as well as other updates, including sharing family photos.
