A holidaymaker who'd "had a good few drinks" was left red faced after casually swinging a beach bag over his shoulder and the weight of two towels knocked him off his feet.

Scott Pemberton, from Wigan, was heading back to his apartment in Benidorm, Spain, earlier this month with his brother Kieron filming him when he suffered the embarrassing accident. Wince-inducing footage shows the 36-year-old swing the beach bag filled with two wet towels upwards and over his head.

The momentum of the bag drags his frame backwards and sweeps his feet from under him until he slams onto the street tiles flat on his back. Luckily the Benidorm-branded bag and his wrist stop his head from slamming against the floor and Kieron, 38, breaks into laughter.

Baffled Scott stumbled to his feet to continue his day of drinking but woke with a sore neck and back so admits he won't be trying the stunt again. Kieron has since joked it's his brother's slender eight stone weight that caused the dramatic fall and he's pleased he was filming at the "right time".

He posted the video to Facebook where it's since been viewed 600,000 times with users split between those in hysterics over the video and others baffled by how he wasn't hospitalised. Kieron said: "That's how skinny he is. That a couple of towels could do that to him. He's only light and the bag was pretty heavy. It had to be at least a stone with soaking wet beach towels.

"He thought he could swing it over because he was messing around but when he did that it just took his feet. I can't believe I had the phone at the right time. I'm glad the bag was there because it could have done damage to his head and then it wouldn't have been funny. I was in two minds between checking he was alright and laughing but the laughing took over."

Removal firm owner Scott says the pair showed the clip to fellow holidaymakers and claim it was even shown on screens in some bars as entertainment. The brothers were on the Costa Blanca between June 9 and 13 as a late celebration of Kieron's birthday in May and unfazed Scott says the footage "made their holiday".

"It all happened so quickly that I wondered what happened," said Scott. "I slipped on the tiles and then my hands and the bag probably supported my head. We'd had a good few drinks that day so I felt the pain the next day in my back and the top of my neck.

"I feel lucky not to have been in hospital. If the bag was full of bottles or cans and not wet towels it could have been a lot worse. Or if the bag had landed differently. I'm glad it was caught on camera because it probably made the holiday. People were talking about it and it made people laugh.

"I find it funny now and people have recognised me at the shops in Wigan. I'm quite a Jack-the-lad anyway. I won't be doing that again and I won't be going to Benidorm again."

Kieron playfully captioned his viral video "no one was harmed making this video" and it has almost 250 comments. One said: "It's funnier because he's always going on about his weight and how skinny he is and all it's taken is a bag of wet towels to pull him down. Honestly, I'm crying laughing."

A second wrote: "You've made a few of us smile today, so thanks. Even if it was at your expense." A third added: "I still don't know how he didn't break his wrist."
