A vegan passenger was left hungry and dismayed after they received a single soft fruit as their in-flight meal.

Kris Chari was flying out of Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on a Japan Airlines plane and decided to order the vegan breakfast.

The passenger was shocked when the meal arrived at their seat, and it was a lone banana.

Kris posted a photo of the long and yellow foodstuff on Flyer Talk, a forum for aviation buffs to discuss the ups and down of air travel.

"I mistakenly assumed she meant that breakfast included a banana," the passenger wrote.

"When she served the banana after take-off I thought it was just an underwhelming appetizer, but it was in fact the entire meal service.

"It was a really good banana—one of the best I've had recently—but it still seems more appropriate as a snack."

Kris went on: "Lunch was barely seasoned spaghetti and my meals on other Japan Airlines flights were also bad, but nothing was quite as insubstantial this. It was cute of the crew to serve the banana with chopsticks, though."

The disappointed passenger is not the only person to be let down by an inflight meal.

A Ryanair customer was recently left fuming after ordering a lasagne onboard a flight back to the UK and being served up the "soggiest, saddest, greyest-looking mush".

Sarah Wilson was drawn into ordering the meal on the flight from Vienna to Bristol earlier this month after spotting delicious-looking images of the £5.20 vegan meal on the menu.

The glossy brochure features a photograph of a golden-topped lasagne with melted cheese and filled with seasoned vegetables.

However the charity worker from Bideford, North Devon was left disappointed after ordering the lasagne, only for the reality to look different to the picture.

Instead, Sarah was handed what she described as a watery, slimy meal that appeared to look more like cracked white paint rather than the tantalising, brown lasagne meal that she had hoped for.

She posted the comparison images on Twitter earlier this month, adding: "I was coming back from Vienna and I felt a bit peckish so I went to order a meal.

"From the packet the lasagne looked quite appetising and quite delicious. When it came out it was disgusting and tepid.

"I said 'this doesn't appear to be cooked' and I asked them to heat it up properly. They came back with a second one and it was just as bad. I couldn't eat it.

"I opened it up and thought, 'Jesus, I can't eat this'. I wasn't impressed at all. It was the soggiest, saddest, greyest looking mush. I just thought it was adding insult to injury.

"It looked nothing like what it was on the packet and I know Ryanair is a budget airline, but can they not offer a vegetarian alternative? Can they not advertise that when it's just not what you get? It's shoddy."

Japan Airlines has been contacted for comment.
