UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones has responded to Tom Aspinall's call-out by going on a tweet-and-delete spree.

Jones was targeted by Aspinall after his 73-second knockout win against Marcin Tybura at UFC London this past weekend. Aspinall was returning after a year on from his horror knee injury against Curtis Blaydes and he wants to face the winner of Ciryl Gane and Serghei Spivac's upcoming fight to set up a title clash with Jones.

Being called out by a young up-and-comer is familiar territory for Jones, as the UFC legend has beaten several rising prospects during his accomplished career. Jones reflected on this in a now-deleted string of tweets that read: “Everyone’s the next big thing until I beat them and then it’s like well. Who was that guy anyway?

"Just a few months ago Gane was the absolute future of MMA. Best foot work, fastest heavy weight we have ever seen. The most athletic. Now everyone’s like who the hell is that guy. Half the time the guys talking the most crap don't even end up winning their next fight. I've been around the game for a long time. Over the years, I've learned not to get all impressed so quickly. Stick around, win consistently like I have and then talk your s***."

Jones has hinted at retirement after his upcoming heavyweight title defence against Stipe Miocic at UFC 281 in November. The consensus greatest MMA fighter of all-time has been competing in the UFC since 2008 and is widely considered unbeaten in his professional career, with his only loss being a controversial DQ for illegal elbows in a fight that he was winning.

A potential fight with Aspinall is something Jones welcomed over the weekend as he tweeted: "Sounds good lol". Jones joked that he will likely still be beating prospects as he turns grey, adding: "Sometimes I feel like I’ve been in a deja vu, everyone’s going to be the guy to kick my a**. Meanwhile, I’m over here undefeated with a face full of grey hairs."

Aspinall believes is different to any of Jones' previous challengers and is confident he would be the first to knockout 'Bones' as he said on The MMA Hour: "I think I have to touch you once, I know Tybura and Jon Jones are two completely different people, I’m very well aware of that but he’s a human being. I only have to hit one time at a speed that he doesn’t see, and I’m really capable of doing that. It’s not even a question, I can knock him out.”
