Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello's marriage was reportedly "impacted by his sobriety" and the fact that Sofia was and is not sober, according to a new report.
The high-profile couple confirmed their separation after seven years of marriage, with them revealing: "We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives", as per Page Six.
But now it has been revealed that the cause of their marriage might have been down to Joe's 21-year sobriety.
An insider has said that Joe, 46, had always been candid about his alcohol struggles, with him even "warned" about getting into a relationship with somebody who was not "actively sober".
Speaking to MailOnline, the source revealed: "Of course the fact that Sofia is not sober had an impact on their marriage."
'I stopped drinking booze on dates and it made life much more exciting'The source added that although Joe knew about the way in which Sofia was not actively sober, "he did not think that he was going to change her but he also didn’t think about the implications this could have on their marriage".
Elsewhere the paper report that Sofia was incredibly supportive of her husband's sobriety, despite the starlet often sharing snaps of her drinking alcohol online.
The news comes after Modern Family star Sofia tied the knot with the Magic Mike actor in a romantic ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida, in November 2015 after less than one year of dating. 400 people attended their lavish ceremony, with a star-studded guest list too.
Joe, who shot to fame playing Alcide Herveaux in True Blood, decided to stop drinking alcohol in 2002. In a chat with Men’s Health at the time, he spoke about how "drinking was a way for me not to have to deal with me", with him adding that there was a point "I really thought I was broken beyond the point of being able to be fixed".
Speaking to the magazine again years later in 2019, which happened to be 17 years on from going sober, Joe explained how meditation really aided his sobriety. "I do it as soon as I wake up. Twenty minutes," he told the publication at the time.
He also spoke about training his body as well as his mind, with Joe detailing his workout routine. He explained how at the time he trained six out of seven days each week and did a hybrid of bodybuilding and CrossFit.
