Manchester United supporters have reacted with horror after purported pictures of their away kit for the 2023/24 kit were leaked online.

United have already officially released their home kit for the upcoming campaign, with the club saying it takes inspiration from Manchester’s industrial heritage. The Adidas kit apparently has an iconic red rose in a geometric pattern and echoes back to the bridge between Manchester and Salford.

The kit appeared to go down well with fans, who appreciate its classic and pretty straightforward style. The same cannot be said for the away effort, which is yet to be officially released but has leaked online.

Promotional snaps show Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia sporting a dark green shirt with white and red stripes down it. The arms of the long sleeve top are adorned with tightly-packed stripes – something not appreciated by the club’s fans, who have taken to Twitter to let them know.

“This kit is absolutely f***ing horrendous,” one fan tweeted. Another added: “It looks like Mr Bean's pyjamas”.

Another wrote: “I genuinely think it's the worst we've ever had, and we've had some shockers over the years.” One writer replied: “It might actually be the worst kit we’ve ever been saddled with…. a horror story. Literally hideous”.

However, a few fans liked what they saw. “Not his lie I kinda like it. Very very retro lol,” one tweeted. “I am not a United fan but find it quite nice,” another wrote.

United are yet to officially launch the controversial kit, but it could well be unveiled for the first time during their upcoming pre-season tour.

Erik ten Hag’s side have already played Leeds in Oslo, Norway, and are now heading to Scotland to play Lyon at Murrayfield on Wednesday. They will then fly over the Atlantic for a tour of the United States, with Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

United have already signed Mason Mount for £60million from Chelsea and supporters will be hoping to see some other new players in the new kit. The club are working hard to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana, as well as Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

Mount made his unofficial debut in the 2-0 win over Leeds and enjoyed his first taste of United. “It felt great to be on the pitch,” he said. “We have had that time in training and we have been working so hard, so it is great to show that in matches now. We have been working on a few different tactics," he said.

"The first week is all about fitness and getting work into the legs, but I have a big understanding now of how the manager wants to work and how the boys play. In the second half, the younger boys were amazing in the second half.”
