Baker Mayfield is not over his 2018 loss

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is seemingly still not over his final game for his Oklahoma Sooners.

At the Bucs first mandatory minicamp session on Tuesday, Mayfield had been warming up when he ran into the teams newest addition - kicker Rodrigo Blankenship.

The kicker has had an up-and-down career in the NFL, after an impressive rookie season saw him become one of the more beloved players in the league, due to his small stature and signature glasses he dons under his helmet.

But Mayfield has been no fan of Blankenship and hilariously held on to that grudge after the kicker ended the quarterback's college career with a loss.

In the 2018 Rose Bowl, Blankenship scored 12 points including a 55-yard field goal to give the Georgia Bulldogs the lead, which saw them go on to win the game, defeating the likes of Mayfield, CeeDee Lamb and Kyler Murray.

And with the two reunited on the field for the first time since that incident, Mayfield jogged towards Blankenship, before shaking his hand and jokingly telling the kicker: "I still don't like you". The kicker seemed to enjoy the interaction, with Mayfield joking with reporters after the incident.

That loss was indeed Mayfield's final game of his college career, before he went on to be the number one overall draft pick in the 2018 class - going ahead of Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson.

Mayfield had an extremely impressive rookie season and impressed again in 2020, but has failed to replicate those years in the past two seasons - and now finds himself with his fourth team in three years.

He was traded by the Cleveland Browns after the team made the controversial move for Deshaun Watson, before struggling with the Carolina Panthers and performing well in a short stint with the Los Angeles Rams.

This season feels like the chance to prove himself as a starter in the NFL, but Mayfield will have some star receiving options in Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Russell Gage, along with a strong offensive line - arguably making it the best supporting cast he's had through his career.

But the quarterback has not yet won the job, as he'll battle with second-round draft pick Kyle Trask to earn the position as QB1.
