Nicholas Lyndhurst is set to return to TV in a move that could turn him into a Hollywood superstar following his iconic role in Only Fools and Horses.

The Rodney Trotter star is expected to star in the reboot of US sitcom Frasier and his co-star Kelsey Grammer has predicted the actor will be a huge hit with audiences around the world.

Kelsey has previously worked with the BBC sitcom star and praised the comedy actor's talent.

He said: "I warned them in America. I said, ‘Wait until this guy gets here. You’ll be doing a scene with him and suddenly you realise he’s just run off with it. He’s an extraordinary actor, a dear friend. And I am so pleased he’s part of it.

“I adore him and he’s one of the funniest people I’ve ever worked with."

“I accuse him of being a bit of a sandbagger because you don’t see him coming and all of a sudden he’s getting all the laughs. Nicholas has been hired to play a university professor called Alan in the reboot, who is pals with Frasier," he told the The Times.

Kelsey will be reprising his role as Frasier after 19 years and the rebooted series is being made for streaming service Paramount+.

Toks Olagundoye and Jack Cutmore-Scott are also set to star in the series which is scheduled to launch later this year.

The Cheers spin-off originally aired for 11 series between 1993 and 2004.

Nicholas isn't the only Only Fools and Horses star with a Hollywood connection.

Wanda Ventham, who played Pam Parry, Rodney's mother-in-law, is the mother of Hollywood actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

The British actor has starred in BBC's Sherlock and Marvel's Doctor Strange.

Meanwhile, Only Fools and Horses star Patrick Murray, who starred as Nicholas' on-screen troublesome friend Mickey Pearce in the classic sitcom, has announced his cancer has returned.

He first shared his diagnosis in January 2022 but after an operation to remove a cancerous tumour, alongside chemotherapy, in May last year, the actor has revealed his "lung cancer has returned".

Murray explained that his consultant was "confident that the chemo will keep things in check for months and even years... I am feeling positive with my good (wife's) awesome support".
