Sheikh Jassim submits Man Utd takeover bid as Erik ten Hag holds showdown talks

Manchester United rounded off the 2022/23 season having achieved plenty under Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils lifted the Carabao Cup, earned a place in the top-four and reached the FA Cup final. They will be aiming to go one step better next season.

Before that, United will hope to be busy in the summer transfer market, whilst they could also have potential owners in situ at Old Trafford before the start of next campaign. Usefully, there’s been some major updates on both of those fronts over the past 24 hours.

Take a look at all of the latest headlines relating to the Red Devils:

Sheikh Jassim submits fifth takeover bid

Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani has submitted a fifth and final attempt to push through a Man United takeover. He has been one of the frontrunners since the Glazers announced their intentions to sell the club alongside Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Sheikh Jassim has made one final play to beat the opposition with another offer to the Glazers and the facilitators of a sale, the Raine Group. He has reportedly set a deadline of Friday, after which point he will no longer engage with the process.

The new offer is not thought to meet the American family’s £6bn asking price for the Red Devils. Should a takeover go through, it is suggested that Sheikh Jassim wants to hand boss Ten Hag significant funds to play with in the transfer market.

Ten Hag holds talks

Ten Hag has put pressure on Man United chiefs in order to secure his summer transfer targets, with up to seven players being targeted as part of a summer shortlist. United's football director John Murtough and the recruitment team have been told by the Dutchman that a goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back, two midfielders and two forwards are needed to strengthen the squad.

Ten Hag has been reported to be aware that this is unrealistic, but that he must be demanding in his role to push United forwards. That shopping spree could see a number of players leave Old Trafford in the summer.

Klopp ruins Ten Hag plans

Whilst the United boss has detailed plans in place ahead of the transfer window opening, it seems that some slight hesitation has ruined one potential move already. It has been reported that the Red Devils had previously been interested in Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentine is on his way to Liverpool in what will be a second blow to the Red Devils after losing out to their fierce rivals in the battle to sign Dutch forward Cody Gakpo.
