A Manchester United fan has been arrested at Wembley after wearing a shirt mocking the Hillsborough tragedy which resulted in the deaths of 97 Liverpool fans.

The fan was pictured wearing the shirt at the FA Cup final, where United faced local rivals Manchester City. The supporter has customised United's away shirt to display the number 97, an apparent reference to Hillsborough, and the words 'Not Enough'.

An image of the fan wearing the shirt was shared on a social media by a Liverpool supporter. Metropolitan Police confirmed: "We are aware of this and have worked proactively with officials at Wembley to identify the individual.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of public order offence and taken into custody."

Football fans slammed the vile shirt on social media with Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance (HSA) posting: "Anyone who thinks this is acceptable behaviour needs to come and speak to us and the families of the 97."

And other fans were also outraged by the shirt, with one writing: "How was that even allowed [to] be printed in the shop". Another added: "Not brave enough to show his face though".

While another wrote: "I understand we're rivals but if I ever saw a Liverpool fan with some Munich joke on the back there's no way I wouldn't be saying something. United fans there should be doing the exact same with him, that is a disgrace.

United went on to lose the final 2-1, with City captain Ilkay Gundogan the star of the show. The German gave his side the lead after just 13 seconds with the fastest ever FA Cup final goal.

United skipper Bruno Fernandes then equalised from the penalty spot after Jack Grealish was penalised for a handball. However, Gundogan restored City's lead in the second half with a volley from the edge of the box that ultimately proved to be the winner.

The win means City have now won the double, having also retained their Premier League title, and they have the treble in their sights with Pep Guardiola's side set to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final next week.
