A mum killed her boyfriend's beloved chihuahua by hurling it from a third-floor window during an argument.

Kayleigh Smee, 33, admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to the dog which reportedly belonged to her partner Ryan Doe.

The eight-year-old pooch named Prince broke its neck and died after tumbling 30ft from the flat in Rochester, Kent.

Smee and her partner were said to have been arguing when they came back from the pub one evening in December 2021.

Mr Doe went to apologise to neighbours when Smee allegedly shouted "you can take your f***ing dog with you" before throwing the canine out of the window.

Smee initially denied the charge but changed her plea to guilty before the trial which was set to begin at Maidstone Crown Court on Tuesday.

Smee is facing up to five years in jail. The sentencing was adjourned until July 10 and Smee, from Rochester, was released on unconditional bail.

John Connor, defending, told the court she had been "of good character for about the last decade", and that her previous offending was not animal related.

He said Smee was in an abusive relationship at the time of the incident and had "an awful lot going on in her life".

The judge requested a probation report before deciding the appropriate sentence.

Smee is being prosecuted by the RSPCA for an offence which carries a maximum prison term of five years, after it increased from six months in June 2021.

The court heard the mum is the sole carer for her two children.
