Ten Hag discovers Premier League prize fund after Man Utd's final day blow

The final day of the Premier League season is here, with Manchester United taking on Marco Silva's Fulham at Old Trafford.

United boss Erik ten Hag can enjoy a relatively relaxing Sunday afternoon after his team secured Champions League football next season by hammering Chelsea 4-1 in their last outing. The only thing that remains unclear is whether they will finish in third or fourth.

Once Sunday afternoon's game is out of the way, Ten Hag can prepare for their FA Cup final against Pep Guardiola's treble-chasing Manchester City at Wembley on June 3. With that in mind, here are the latest headlines from Old Trafford.

Final day blow

United missed out on the Women's Super League title, despite beating Liverpool 1-0 at Prenton Park on Sunday afternoon. The Red Devils finished second in the table, just two points behind Chelsea. The Blues clinched the title with a 3-0 win at Reading.

United boss Marc Skinner told reporters: "We can only control the controllables [sic]. We won the game, but we've lost [the title]. Congratulations to Chelsea, they are champions this season and I'm sure they will be aware of us going into next season.

"The growth we have had is immense. How many times in sport do you get to see a team from its inception five years ago to go and qualify for the Champions League? If I was Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, I'd be very scared of us."

Prize fund

United will miss out on £2.2million if they slip to fourth in the Premier League on the final day of the season. That is because the team who finish third in the table will pocket £39.6m in prize money, with the team one spot below taking home £37.4m.

Ten Hag's side head into the season's finale third in the Premier League, two points ahead of Newcastle in fourth. As such, United will need to better Newcastle's result on the final day to guarantee third spot. The Magpies travel to Chelsea for their last fixture.

RVN breaks silence

Ruud van Nistelrooy has reacted to his PSV exit via Instagram. The United legend resigned as PSV manager on Wednesday after just a year in charge. It was a successful season, as they won the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup. They also finished second in the Eredivisie.

Van Nistelrooy wrote: "10 years PSV, what a wonderful ride! I was allowed to help youth players with great colleagues at the academy, so that they could make the step to Jong PSV, PSV 1 [first team] or to professional football at another club."

He added: "The ultimate: becoming the head coach of PSV 1. Winning prizes for this wonderful club with great supporters. Thank you for your unwavering support everywhere we played! PSV will always be in my heart and I will always support the club and the team."
