London drivers left saying their prayers - as nuns on mopeds take to the streets

London drivers were left saying their prayers as a group of nuns on mopeds took to the streets of the city.

The bizarre sight saw the five cloistered ladies zooming past London landmarks such as Big Ben and the London Eye – led by actress Lorna Watson on a vintage red Vespa, complete with sidecar.

The flash-mob style stunt, which took place during rush hour, marked the return of comedy-drama show, Sister Boniface Mysteries, for its second series.

Comic actress Lorna Watson plays the titular character in the series, which is set in the 1960s in the fictional town of Great Slaughter.

The new series will follow Sister Boniface as she forces a murderer into checkmate at a chess tournament, takes a spin at a pirate radio station, confronts a coven of witches, and defends her own reputation as the conviction of her greatest adversary, “The Good Samaritan”, comes into question.

Lorna Watson, star of Sister Boniface, said: “Aside from the crime-solving and wine-making, my favourite part of playing Sister Boniface is riding her moped.

“It’s been such a hoot surprising fans of the show on the streets of London today, hopefully bringing some period drama sparkle to their morning.”

The acclaimed, light-hearted murder-mystery series, Sister Boniface Mysteries, will return for a 10-part second series on Drama and UKTV Play from May 26 at 9pm. All episodes will be available to stream on UKTV Play.
