An audio recording of the moment a US Air Force flight crew came across a UFO over Lake Huron has been released, with the pilots of the F-16 fighter jet shooting down the object.
In the clip, which was recorded on Sunday, the pilots could be heard debating what they were seeing.
The crew were at odds to understand what they were observing and seemingly unable to confirm the size or shape of the object.
The pilots came face to face with the UFO, with one crew member declaring: "I wouldn't really call it a balloon. I can see it outside with my eyes. Looks like something… there’s some kind of object that’s distended… it’s hard to tell, it’s pretty small."
Another pilot adds: 'I'm gonna call it like a container. Can't really tell though what the shape is. The size of it, that would be challenging, it's so slow and so small, I just can't see it."

The crew then went on to discuss how big they thought the object was, with one coming to the conclusion that it was "definitely smaller than a car", while another believed it was the same size as a "four-wheeler".
Military officials have since described the object as an "octagonal structure".

Many UFO enthusiasts believe that extra-terrestrials are behind the influx of unaccounted for objects, with repeated sightings over the United States airspace.
An official US line gave the view more credence, as it has been said that the objects being extra-terrestrial could not be ruled out. However, there is no evidence so far that supports that theory.

US Air Force General Glen VanHerck told reporters that the intelligence services were exploring “all possibilities”.
