A photographer snapped a 'UFO' flying over the Coronation yesterday during the Red Arrows flypast.

Simon Balson, 59, was taking pictures of the aerial display which was scaled down due to the rainy weather - when he spotted the unusual object.

The snapper says he has 'no idea' what the object is saying that there have been a 'lot of unexplained sightings' in the East London area recently.

Brilliant pictures show the Red Arrows aircraft flying towards the Mall in London - but slightly overhead a red object hovers above them.

Due to bad weather, he did not check the photos until this morning when he spotted the unusual object in one frame.

He said: "I was shooting some photos from the 13th floor of my apartment building in Limehouse while the red arrows did their fly-over.

"The weather was bad so there were no birds in the air, and I couldn't really see the planes so I didn't check the photos until later.

"When I did, though, I spotted this weird object and just thought 'what the hell is that'.

"I enhanced the image and tried to increase the spec to see what it was, it looks like a floating acorn or something.

"All I could get is that it had a little bit of a red top, but I just have no idea what it could be.

"There have been lots of strange 'UFO' sightings recently, so I thought other people might be able to guess what it was."

The grim weather did not stop Brits and tourists alike from descending on Central London to witness the first coronation since the late Queen Elizabeth II was crowned 70 years ago.

Some fans even spent £600 on flights from America to watch the event, while others were forced to spend huge amounts of money on umbrellas and Union Jack ponchos, MyLondon reports.

But many royalists were left disappointed as the Mall was closed off for well over two hours due to crowd control reasons.

One woman, who had travelled all the way down on the nightbus from Scotland, said that the police officers directing them had 'no idea' what was going on.

Many have been forced to head towards Hyde Park or the St James' Park area - nowhere near the procession.
Others have took shelter in pubs - some of which were absolutely jam packed.

Earlier in the morning, a small amount of protesters holding placards saying 'not my King' have been spotted in different parts of Central London.

A number of people were arrested near Trafalgar Square where a white van loaded with hundreds of 'not my King' placards were confiscated by officers.

It comes as plans for tonight's King's coronation concert have been thrown into chaos as one of the performers was forced to pull out last minute due to a 'mystery illness'.

Freya Ridings will no longer take part in the spectacle alongside the likes of Katy Perry and Take That.

But singer Zak Abel will reportedly take her place, and will perform along the likes of Olly Murs and Paloma Faith.

There will also be guest segments from Tom Cruise, Bear Grylls and Sir Tom Jones.
