Henry Cejudo has hit back at Conor McGregor's series of tweets after he lost his UFC comeback fight against Alajamain Sterling on Saturday night in New Jersey.

Cejudo was inches away from securing the victory in a razor-close split decision after three years out of the cage, but ultimately slumped to just his third career defeat. The former two-weight world champion was hoping to reclaim the bantamweight belt before moving up to challenge for gold at featherweight, but was stuffed at every attempt by Sterling.

And McGregor, with whom Cejudo has a very public feud, took to Twitter to share his delight after watching the bout, congratulating Sterling and declaring that he had "not a scratch". However, Cejudo refused to be particularly drawn on the issue when asked about the posts at the UFC 288 press conference, aside from one jab about his rival's CV.

" Conor McGregor don't got s*** on my resume, that's all I got to say," Cejudo told media. "He's been stopped - after a three year layoff what I was able to do and compete, hearing the boos when they announced the winner? That says a lot to me, but there's still levels.

"I still know that I can get better, too. But guys, even selling this fight it's okay, man. Bring the hate so maybe it'll motivate me. I'm not one of these guys - yeah I'm a little p***ed that I lost but I love it, so thank you, Conor."

And Cejudo even admitted that McGregor's critique of his brief CV, just 16-2 heading into the bout after making his debut just over a decade ago following his Olympic career. He is now looking over his options with regards hanging up the gloves again, or making one last run at the gold.

"For the amount of fights that I do have, I haven't been fighting like a lot of these other guys," Cejudo added. "It just shows the levels of where I can get to, but look at the people I've beaten, Demetrious [Johnson], TJ [Dillashaw], Dominick Cruz - after a three-year lay-off I had a loss by split decision to the current champ now.

"If I decide to make this run, I will reclaim the belt again. But like I said before, my goal was to go up to 145lb and that's kind of where I will draw the line."
