Former Brookside star Claire Sweeney was snubbed twice while live on air as she failed to high-five the winner of a Eurovision commentary competition.

Claire, who is best known for starring as Lindsey Corkhill in the Channel 4 soap, joined fellow Liverpudlian Kevin Duala during Monday's episode The One Show when the awkward encounter happened.

The pair were on the programme to announce the winner of the Voice of Merseyside commentary competition, who will co-host Eurovision alongside Claire on BBC Radio Merseyside on Saturday, May 13.

During the segment, Kevin was speaking to competition finalist Paul inside the headquarters of the BBC studios in Liverpool - the city where the annual music event will be hosted on behalf of last year's winner Ukraine.

With Claire eagerly stood next to the pair, Kevin announced that Paul had in fact won the competition to work with the 52-year-old actress for the showpiece event.

Speaking to Paul, Kevin said: "I've got a confession to make if I'm honest with you. I was going to interview you about being one of the finalists but I've got a bit of a surprise for you."

A nervous Paul replied: "Kev, don't. Don't do this to me, Kev." With Claire laughing in the background, Kevin continued: "So, exclusively live on the One Show, you have been selected for the Voice of Merseyside!"

As production staff cheered in the background, Paul was left stunned by the news as he looked between Kevin and Claire.

This is when Claire went for her initial high-five with her new work colleague, just as he turned his back on her and looked at Kevin.

Realising that Paul had not noticed the high-five, she patted his shoulder before sarcastically going for another with the competition winner still unaware of her congratulatory action.

Luckily Claire found the situation hilarious as she bent over in half laughing at the gaffe before Kevin celebrated by hugging Paul, with Claire still creasing in the background.

Kevin then explained that Paul would be working on the airwaves alongside Claire for the grand final of Eurovision, but there was still time for Chicago star to jokingly mention the snub.

As Kevin formally introduced the pair to one another, Claire said: "Now you can give me the high-five," with Paul finally doing so with a beam on his face.
