One of the most famous surnames in football could remain connected with Brentford next season.

Romeo Beckham, son of Manchester United and England legend David, signed for The Bees in January on a six-month loan deal from Inter Miami II. He'd previously made 26 MLS appearances for his father's franchise, scoring twice under another ex-United man in Phil Neville.

He's since featured in the Premier League club's second string side, scoring his first goal for Brentford B in a Middlesex Senior Challenge Cup game against Wealdstone. Manager Neil MacFarlane had previously hailed the youngster's "unbelievable impact" after making his debut against Erith & Belvedere FC.

But now the 20-year-old faces a big decision on his future. According to the Daily Telegraph, the club are keen for him to further develop in the B side for another season, and give him the opportunity to ultimately fight for a first-team place.

Beckham now seemingly faces the choice of extending his stay in London or another year, or returning to America. The 2023 MLS campaign is currently two months old, with Inter Miami languishing in 14th with just six points from their first eight games.

Upon signing for the Premier League outfit, many critics lambasted the move as a 'PR stunt' designed to bring attention, and shirt sales, to the club. But director of football Phil Giles this month staunchly defended the move, and the player, claiming his attitude had been exemplary.

Giles told The High Performance Podcast : "We brought Romeo in on a loan from Inter Miami for our B team and it was one of the most read stories that day on the website. It wasn't a PR stunt in any way.

"The thought that went into Romeo is that we have relationships in football, he was looking for places to train in England as he's an Inter Miami player. We said of course but still didn't look past the process of, is he going to add to that environment as a player? Had he come in and been like, 'I'm a Beckham,' that would have been a disaster for us. The character has to be correct."

Beckham's displays have reportedly impressed his new bosses, having been utilised both as a midfielder and a striker. But with his father's influence on his career apparent, Beckham Jnr now faces an intriguing conundrum over his next move.
