With the warmer months just on the horizon, people may be starting to think of warm summer nights and brighter evenings. However, for gardeners, there's one main question on their mind.

When should they cut their grass after winter? Many people tend to stop mowing their lawns during the winter months as the cold weather is said to stop the grass from growing, Liverpool Echo reports.

In addition, wet weather and poor conditions can also be extremely off-putting as it it leaves the blades and soil soft. According to the RHS, you should never mow the lawn if the ground is very soft, wet, or frozen.

Thinking about when they can next enjoy their gardens or maintain their grass out front of their homes, many people may be wondering if there's a specific date to start on their grass.

And for reasons stated above, it's vital that they don't take to their grass too early. Otherwise, it could damage the ground.

During the spring and summer, experts advise that your lawn should be cut every two weeks. This is because grass grows when soil temperature reaches approximately 6C and above.

The Woodland Trust says it's likely you'll need to start cutting your grass during around March.

However, you should always keep your eye out on local conditions and weather where you live as the first mowing date will generally depend on these certain factors.

Pinpointing an extra date, a survey carried out showed most people choose March 18 as the first day of the year to mow their lawns.

It also warns people: "Before you mow, be sure to scout your lawn for any animals that could be harmed. Hedgehogs in particular like to curl up in long grass and may otherwise go unnoticed."
