Ryan Reynolds leapt into the air in celebration as Ben Foster suggested he will stay at Wrexham next season as the Welsh club return to the Football League.

Wrexham clinched the National League title with a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood on Saturday night. The victory means the club have secured automatic promotion to League Two with a game to spare.

The Red Dragons have been the source of international interest since they were purchased by Hollywood star Reynolds and Rob McElhenney - the creator of ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia - in November 2020. The duo even managed to lure former Manchester United and Watford goalkeeper Foster out of retirement to return to the Racecourse Ground.

Foster called time on his playing days at the end of last season, after slowly moving towards becoming a squad player-come-YouTuber. The 39-year-old has enjoyed success on social media thanks to his vlogs - so his move to Wrexham felt like a match made in heaven.

The story appeared to get its Hollywood ending on Saturday - but Foster’s time with Wrexham might not be done just yet. In the celebrations featured on Foster’s YouTube channel, Reynolds suggested Foster had enjoyed promotion celebrations before, and the goalkeeper replied: “We’ll do it again next year.”

Reynolds leapt in the air in celebration, yelling a jubilant ‘yes’ as he jumped into the arms of Foster. The Canadian actor then said: “Alright, that’s a contract. He said ‘We’ll do it again next year’.”

“That’s it done. That is as good as gold. You just verbally signed.”

Foster first played for Wrexham back in 2005 when he was loaned out by Stoke City and went on to win his first-ever piece of silverware in the EFL Trophy. He added to his collection with the National League trophy.

When the full time whistle went, footage showed Reynolds and McElhenney share an emotional embrace with the American wiping tears away as fans stormed the field. He later said owning Wrexham has been the ‘honour’ of his life.

Wrexham have gained international recognition and partnered with major companies such as title shirt sponsor TikTok and Expedia, despite being in the non-league. The Welsh club are set to enjoy a pre-season tour of the United States in the summer where they will face both Chelsea and Manchester United.
