Scott Mitchell and a number of EastEnders stars will run the London Marathon this Sunday for Alzheimer's Research UK in memory of Dame Barbara Windsor.

As leader of Babs’ Army, it will be Scott’s third and final marathon in memory of his late wife who died in December 2020.

He'll be joined by BBC soap stars Jake Wood, Lacey Turner, Tanya Franks, Heather Peace, Natalie Cassidy and Adam Woodyatt.

Scott joined Good Morning Britain on Tuesday, along with Tanya and Adam, to share with hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid how his late wife continues to inspire him to run.

Susanna remarked: "Barbara had a remarkable name for you Scott, when she saw you training to be a runner."

"Yes, she did. She was sitting on the settee and she looked at me and I was just stretching before I went out. She said, 'What are you doing?' and I said, 'Barbara, I'm training for the London Marathon.'

"She said, 'You? Your legs are too little to run' and I keep hearing her voice when I get too tired, I keep hearing her voice [saying those words]."

Susanna interjected: "Anybody can run, it doesn't matter how short your legs are!"

"And they say actually if you're shorter you can run faster because you can get more rotations in," Tanya joked.

Ian Beale star Adam's son Sam, Jane Slaughter, Candice Brown, Daisy Luckett and John McIntyre will also be running the marathon as part of Babs' Army.

Adam, who admitted he is probably the least prepared in the group due to acting commitments, revealed he is ironically the "most chilled" member of the team.

"We've done it before, we know it's going to hurt, it's as simple as that," the EastEnders star quipped.

The run on Sunday in support of Alzheimer's Research UK, marks four years since Scott and Barbara became the faces of Dementia Revolution – the 2019 London Marathon’s charity of the year.

Since the EastEnders icon's death in December 2020 to Alzheimer’s disease, Babs' Army has helped raise more than £4million.
