Baseball star Anthony Bass has been left outraged after a flight attendant ordered his 22-week pregnant wife to get on her hands and knees to clean up after their toddler.

The Toronto Blue Jays pitcher's family were travelling on a United Airlines flight when in-flight crews noticed that popcorn had spilled onto the floor. Their two daughters were on board with Bass' wife, who was made to clear up the mess by the attendants.

The Blue Jays star took to Twitter to express his anger, even engaging in a conversation with the customer service team at United Airlines. But the post appears to have backfired, with many users siding with the flight attendant.

"The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter," Bass tweeted. "Are you kidding me?!?!"

United Airlines responded within minutes, as they replied: "Hi there, Anthony. We certainly understand your concern and we'd like to look into this. When you have a moment, please DM your wife's confirmation number along with any additional details regarding her interaction with this crew member."

But fans have not reacted well to Bass' complaints, and have backed the United crew for making his wife clear up after her daughters. "Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made?" Said one user. "As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them."

Another replied: "The flight attendant was making sure the next passengers had a tidy seating area for their flight. But Karen thinks they should get down on their hands and knees to clean up after everyone’s kids or get fired."

"I have three kids, just flew coach 12 hours, and was able to clean up after them — for every mess," one fan stated. "It’s called parenting. Do you expect park janitors to clean up after your pet? No; Your child, your responsibility."

Bass proceeded to respond to some of the comments, arguing his case about being concerned for the well-being of his wife. But after this died down, Bass took to Twitter again and said: "Thank you everyone for the support, United Airlines is taking care of matters with the flight attendant internally."
