A mum is furious after a pair of jeans she bought for her teenage son arrived with a packet of suspicious pills in pocket.

Natalie Payne bought the £115.99 trousers for her 13-year-old's birthday from UK firm Flannels and they arrived with the tags still on.

But she then found the blue tablets she believes could be MDMA.

Natalie, from Devonport, called the police and officers collected the bag as part of their enquiries.

A customer service employee for the company, which is owned by Frasers Group, told the mum a "full investigation" would be carried out.

They also apologised for the "totally unacceptable" incident.

Natalie said the 'drugs' fell out as her son unwrapped the present.

She told PlymouthLive: "My son could have thought they were sweets."

She added she was "utterly disgusted" with the discovery.

The customer service email went on to say "clear errors" had been made in the warehouse.

Natalie continued: "Luckily I was present when the parcel was opened.

"He could have died.

"[Flannels] is saying it has missed two parts of quality control and they clearly haven't checked the item when it's been sent back or checked it before it's been dispatched to us.

"It's my 13-year-old-son's birthday present and he's opened it and had to witness drugs falling out.

"I don't feel like it's good enough. It's a multi-million pound company and they are offering me £250 but I've had to keep drugs in my house to wait for police to come and get them.

"I haven't slept, I'm so stressed."

After receiving a complaint, Flannels confirmed to Natalie that a full refund of £115.99 for the ordered item had been processed on the day she contacted them, along with a £250 voucher to be used as compensation.

It also issued a 20% discount code with free next day delivery.

"I'm really not happy with their response," she continued. "It's just not good enough."

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "A member of the public contacted police in Plymouth on 9 April, to report finding a bag of pills in the pockets of a pair of new jeans bought online. Police collected the bag and enquiries are ongoing."
