Britain could see a return to balmy conditions next week after many enjoyed an Easter bank holiday weekend in the sun.

Some spots could even see a rise in the mercury up to 21C - which would make it hotter than tourist hotspot Barcelona which is currently experiencing temperatures in the high teens.

The high pressure system is due to move back in which will bring the warmer conditions after a week of harsh weather to come.

BBC Met Office forecaster Chris Fawkes said: “Gradually through Sunday and Monday it becomes drier and eventually warmer, the first 20C of the year on the charts in London into Monday.”

However, before the sun makes a welcome return, Brits are set to endure a battering of wind and rain - and even snow in some parts.

A yellow weather warning was issued for wind across parts of Wales, northwest England and southwest Scotland and could see wind and winter conditions hammer parts of the country until 11pm.

The wind alert warns strong winds bring the potential for "some disruption", adding: "Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely."

Winds will also spread late Wednesday morning into early afternoon across Northern Ireland with gusts of 45-50 mph at times inland and 60 mph along northern coasts.

However, the Met Office predict all parts of the UK could see rain and even snow in some parts as we go through the week

Met Office Meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, said a "low pressure system" would be moving across the UK tonight, and parts of Scotland could see snow overnight.

He added southern and western areas would see strong winds on Wednesday, and even snow on higher ground in the north.

Unsettled conditions are said to be due to “explosive” weather bomb from Storm Antoni.

The new warnings come as the Environment Agency issued eight flood alerts for areas across southern England.
