Alstom offers roles all over the UK from Glasgow to Plymouth, Derby to Birmingham and around the London area. Whether it’s delivering AVENTRA, the biggest train programme in a generation or HS2 – the UK’s fastest ever trains; maintaining 66 per cent of all of the UK’s trains from Pendolinos to Elizabeth line trains.
Trainees could even be realising the digital future of signalling, Alstom UK has a huge variety of exciting roles all over the UK. And to demonstrate how serious it is about developing your skills, Alstom opened its Apprentice Training Academy during this week’s National Apprenticeship Week celebrations.

Nursery apologises after child with Down's syndrome ‘treated less favourably’On opening the Training Academy, Dame Margaret said, “It’s a real pleasure to open Alstom’s new National Training Centre during National Apprenticeship Week. I am delighted to see Alstom continuing to invest in Derby’s young people, and in the Litchurch Lane facility, the only factory in Britain with the capability to design, build and test new trains for the UK and for export.”
The new Training Academy features 18 permanent teaching staff and increases the professionalisation of Alstom’s training offer in the UK. It offers 1,600m2 of practical learning space comprising four classrooms, a canteen, a coffee area, and break-out study areas where the new trainees are inducted at Alstom.
It also features a training hall containing a carriage and cab from the AVENTRA programme where apprentices can gain practical experience working on carriages before joining a live manufacturing team. Depending on their chosen career stream, trainees will spend an initial three weeks in the Academy learning the initial skills and competencies they need to perform their role, including a strong focus on safety and quality before they join their respective teams.
Throughout their apprenticeship, trainees will benefit from 30-40 hours of classroom learning per month, as well as great links with local colleges and universities. Applications for the latest batch of level 3 apprenticeships are open until Friday, March 31, 2023.
