Hay fever sufferers know all too well how difficult it can be to counteract the effects of pollen. From over-the-counter medicine to natural remedies, there are lots of tips and tricks people turn to during the summer months, and many use a combination to combat their symptoms.

Equally, it can be helpful to reduce the pollen in your home environment, and sufferers will already know the benefits of keeping windows closed and vacuuming regularly. But did you realise there's an order you should follow?

When you're cleaning your home, it is best to hoover in a precise pattern, an expert has revealed.

Tyler Woodward, health and wellness expert at Eden's Gate, explained: "Vacuuming can alleviate symptoms experienced by trapping pollen and clearing all dust and allergens in the air before they can cause an allergic reaction.

"Adding to this, vacuuming in diagonal and zig zag lines first, followed by a thorough vacuum is a great way to ensure all dust particles are picked up, reducing the risk of hay fever."

The pro also shared advice on how best to reduce symptoms when you're out and about. For starters, a simple wardrobe change could be a big help.

"Wraparound sunglasses can help with hay fever by shielding the eyes from pollen, dust, and other allergens in the air. The wraparound design of the sunglasses helps to keep the allergens from getting in the eyes and causing irritation," Tyler said.

Adding an anti-pollen freshener to your car can also make a difference. The pro explained: "Using anti-pollen air fresheners in your car can help reduce hay fever symptoms by magnetising any pollen or dust before it can reach the nose and eye, therefore making your drive around more comfortable. That being said, if you do feel uncomfortable and irritated whilst driving, it is advised to pull over and take some time to reset before driving again."
