Paul O'Grady's friend and actress Linda Thorson joined Good Morning Britain on Thursday to open up on her friendship with the iconic star as she revealed how the presenter died.

In a statement released by Paul's husband Andre Portasio, it was confirmed the presenter and comedian died "unexpectedly but peacefully" at the age of 67 on Tuesday.

Speaking about her friend, Linda told Susanna Reid and Adil Ray: "He was so happy, full of life. But he died in his own bed, his husband was there, Andre the most divine man who he has been with for many years. He's only 41, he will be so bereft of Paul, he worshipped Paul.

"He gave a speech at Paul's 60th birthday and Cilla was there and Barbara Windsor, they're all gone. They'll all be partying in heaven and the Queen."

"It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening," Andrew said in a statement announcing his husband's death.

"He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion. I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years."

There has been an outpouring of grief from stars throughout the entertainment business as those who knew him rushed to pay tribute to the presenter and animal rights campaigner.

In a statement released on behalf of Queen Consort, Camilla, said she was "deeply saddened to have learned of the death of Paul O'Grady, with whom she worked closely to support the work of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and whose warm heart and infectious humour lit up the lives of so many".

Top Gear host Paddy McGuinness added: "Paul started in the pubs and working men's clubs but finished as an icon of British TV. I'll miss him very much. Rest in peace Paul."
