Choosing a car you want to buy can be difficult - you want it to look the part but it needs to be practical too. But did you know the car you drive can say a lot about you to potential partners?

Well, if you're a BMW driver, it turns out you're out of luck, as a study by Scrap Car Comparison has shown that BMW is the car brand most likely to give people 'the ick'. A common phrase in the dating world, getting 'the ick' translates to a feeling of disgust, perhaps after initial attraction, due to a particular behaviour.

And, it's not just BMW drivers who should be worried - if you're a dangerous driver, or experience road rage in front of a potential partner, the likelihood is that you won't be seeing them again.

Conversely, if you're polite when you're driving and flash your headlights to say thank you to another driver, it's a 'turn on' to some people, which will be good news to those who go out of their way to be kind.

The new Barbie movie may be coming up this summer, but that doesn't mean you should go out and buy yourself a pink car, as according to the research, pink is the most 'icky' colour to choose for your motor.

Other ick-inducing motoring habits included engine revving at traffic lights, vaping while driving, and of course, driving after consuming alcohol.

Understandably, kissing a car 'goodnight' was also flagged as a turn-off, and parking on double yellows is also a sure-fire way to kill off a potential romance, according to the study.

If you drive a Fiat, Skoda, Smart, or an Audi, it's also bad news, as they've been earmarked as 'ick' inducing car brands, as well as BMW.

But, it's not all bad news, because if you sing whilst you drive, 11 per cent of people will find you more irresistible.

Dan Gick, Managing Director at Scrap Car Comparison said: "The idea of the 'ick' is something that's definitely been widely discussed over the past year or so, and is something that I’m sure many of us can relate to.

"However, when we look at the top driving icks, it's interesting to see that the majority of the top icks are behaviours that are riskier, and could put us in danger on the roads.

"Likewise, seeing people thanking others as one of the habits that turn people on the most is also very encouraging, as it's definitely something that's courteous to do as a driver - although, it's better to raise a hand rather than flash lights, to avoid any confusion.
