Boris Johnson has flogged his London home for £200,000 under the asking price as he prepares to buy a country pile instead.

The ex-Prime Minister and his wife Carrie are swapping the townhouse in Camberwell for a nine-bedroom mansion in the Cotswolds.

The couple put their four-bedroom Victorian terrace home up for sale for £1.6million in the summer.

But official documents show they had to knock money off as it has now sold for £1.4million.

Mr Johnson, who has been trousering millions of pounds from giving speeches around the world, is understood to have exchanged contracts on his new home, a Grade II-listed detached manor house.

It has its own walled garden, moat and a tennis court, ideal for tennis-loving Mr Johnson, 58.

The couple paid £1.2million for their Camberwell home in July 2019. It is described by estate agents as a “beautiful” home “offering an abundance of character” that has an “impressive” amount of space.

Mr and Mrs Johnson have never lived at the property and are thought to have rented it out while they were in No10.

The former PM is by far the highest-paid MP as he cashes in on his disastrous time in Downing Street.

He has raked in a whopping £4.8million in the past year, mainly on the lucrative international after dinner speaking circuit.

Mr Johnson has received a £510,000 advance for his upcoming memoirs.

He announced his resignation as PM in July after most of his Cabinet quit their jobs in protest.

He stepped down in September after Liz Truss was elected as Tory leader. When she was forced out weeks later, Mr Johnson attempted to stage a comeback.

But he withdrew from the leadership contest as he failed to match the support Mr Sunak had from Tory MPs.
