A good friend of missing actor Julian Sands has admitted 'something has gone wrong' after the British star vanished while hiking.
Julian, 65, vanished over two weeks ago when he failed to return from a trip around a trail in the Mount Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains in California.
Several searches have taken place for the actor with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies looking by foot and by air to try and find traces of Julian.
Now his fellow actor Kevin Ryan has opened up about his missing friend as he admits feeling there is more to his disappearance.
Kevin, 38, explained that Julian is “the most advanced hiker I know” and has detailed how he is highly experienced in hiking mountains.
Gales, snow and rain to batter country today with 80mph wind gustsHe said: “For me, each day that does go by puts more pressure and I guess brings a lot of doubt in. But Julian is such an advanced hiker. It’s what he did. His whole life he was climbing mountains. It was a true passion of his.”
“He is beyond experienced and I’m hoping that he’s tucked away somewhere and can pull through.”
Julian and Kevin became friends when they worked together on the set of 2014 US drama series Crossbones and have been hiking together in the past.
Ryan then gave further details about Mount Baldy which he has climbed numerous times admitting "you can go there during the summer heat and it’s a different mountain than it is during the winter, especially with how heavy the weather has hit that area - that’s a whole new trail."
He then explained how he believed Julian would have seen it as a "challenge" if there were poor weather conditions on the trail as "he likes to push himself."
Kevin confessed that while he thinks pushing yourself in life can make you better, "in this situation, it’s a very tricky, dangerous hike with these weather conditions."
He added: “And obviously something has gone wrong. Hopefully, with time we’ll find out and hopefully it’ll be the best result.”
Kevin confirmed that he has not joined the search efforts because he is currently filming in Ireland or he would have been there to help and thanked the teams who have been searching for their "relentless" efforts.
Weather conditions on Thursday led to a helicopter search for Julian being called off due to the strong winds making it unsafe for the airborne craft to continue flying.
The authorities have also deployed modern technology to help with the search in the form of a Recco device, which helps to detect credit cards and electronic.
