A dad was left fuming after his six-year-old boy ordered over $1000 (£810) of takeaway while mum was out for the evening.

Keith Stonehouse was looking after his son Mason while wife Kristin was seeing a movie with some friends.

Except rather than an uneventful night of peace and quiet at their Michigan, US, home, the young boy managed to get onto his dad's Grubhub account and ordered huge amounts of food.

As a treat before bed, Keith let Mason play a game on his phone but instead the boy clicked over to the takeout app and just started ordering.

Keith said: “I was putting Mason to bed and saw a car pull up and the doorbell rang with the driver dropping off a big bag of stuff.

"My wife owns “A Slice of Heaven Cakes” bakery and it was a big wedding weekend, so I thought it was just someone dropping off decorative stuff they used from her. But it was from Leo’s Coney Island. I said, ‘What the heck?’”

“The doorbell rang again and it kept happening. Car after car. Cars were pulling into the driveway while others were pulling out. I finally asked one of them what they were delivering. He said we ordered chicken shwarmas. I took the food and then it hit me.

"I looked at my phone with repeated messages that my food was getting ready, my food was being delivered. I looked at my bank account and it was getting drained.”

He desperately tried to cancel the orders but after calling one restaurant he was told he would have to contact Grubhub which he couldn't figure out how to do.

Mountains of pizzas, shrimp, salads and sandwiches arrived to an increasingly furious Keith.

At one point his bank sent him a fraud alert declining a $439 (£356) order from one pizza place but a $183 (£149) order from the same restaurant did go through.

Keith explained: “This was like something out of a “Saturday Night Live” skit.

“I was probably a 9.5 out of 10 anger while it was happening. The next day, I was at an eight and now I’m at about a three. I don’t really find it funny yet, but I can laugh with people a little bit. It’s a lot of money and it kind of came out of nowhere.”

The fuming dad tried to tell the six-year-old Mason off but found it difficult to explain what he did. The boy simply asked: “Dad, did the pepperoni pizzas come yet?”

All this extra food ended up in the family's fridges with Keith even inviting the neighbours over for a bite.

Keith has since said he has changed his passwords.
