Glasgow councillor faces court hearing over stalking charges

Philip Braat, who is currently suspended by Labour, was arrested and charged on October 23rd.

A court hearing will take place this week after a Glasgow councillor was charged in connection with alleged stalking offences. The case is scheduled for Wednesday at Glasgow sheriff court.

Braat, a city councillor since 2007 who represents the Anderston/City/Yorkhill ward, used to lead the Strathclyde Police Authority.

He was a Labour councillor and was suspended by the party pending the outcome of his case. The Crown Office said the case is due to call on February 5.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 48-year-old man was arrested and charged on Wednesday, 23 October, 2024, in connection with alleged stalking offences. A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal and he is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.”
