Donald Trump has been sworn in as the 47th president of the United States, returning to office after four years.
Referencing his attempted assassination this summer, Trump said: ‘I was saved by God to make America great again.’
He began his inaugural speech by saying, ‘The golden age of America begins now,’ adding that his inauguration day was now ‘liberation day’.
Trump also stressed that the US government policy would be that there are only two genders – male and female. He also said the Gulf of Mexico and Mount Denali will be renamed as the Gulf of America and Mount McKinley.
Among those attending today are incoming vice-president JD Vance and members of Trump’s immediate family – along with a number of high-profile businessmen and tech gurus.
Tech billionaires and donors Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos, are present, along with Trump’s attorney and former mayor of New York, Rudy Guiliani.
All living presidents are present at the inauguration today, along with foreign dignitaries from China, Argentina and Italy.
Notable absences will include former first lady Michelle Obama and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
Trump plans to start his presidency with a sweeping show of force, signing over 200 executive orders which include instructions to release classified files about the JFK assassination.
