Wayne Rooney has been out of work since December after being sacked by Plymouth Argyle but is set to get back into coaching next month.
Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney is gearing up for a coaching comeback next month - though not with a pro outfit.
It’s been less than a fortnight since Rooney was shown the door by Championship side Plymouth Argyle, having secured a meagre five victories in 25 games. The underwhelming performances saw the Devon outfit hit rock bottom of England’s second division, which subsequently put an end to the ex-England captain’s latest managerial role.
While a popular prediction for the 39-year-old’s next role points to the punditry path, he’ll instead venture back into coaching as a new ambassador for Football Escapes, where’ll take charge of a kid’s training camp.
Describing themselves as ’The premier blend of holiday delights and footballing highs’, Rooney will travel to Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Hotel from February 17th to the 21st for his new gig, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Parents and youngsters alike have been promised : "This is your chance to give your kids the opportunity to train with one of football’s greatest icons." According to the Football Escapes website, the kick-off prices for this holiday and training experience for a family of four sit between £4650 and £8650.
While the Red Devils legend will surely hope for a swift return to football management, he’s been touted for a possible return to his former club in a different capacity.
Three-time Premier League winner Teddy Sheringham believes Rooney could make a positive impact as a striking coach at Old Trafford, namely on the struggling Rasmus Hojlund.
Having scored just seven goals in 23 games this season, the former England international believes under the guidance of Rooney, the Dane could see improvement in front of goal. "Would Wayne Rooney be a good striking coach? Without a doubt," the ex-United and Spurs forward said via BoyleSports.
"I think it is a very important role nowadays. There are set-piece coaches, back four coaches, striker coaches and Wayne’s been one of the top players in the country.
"Could he help Rasmus Hojlund? Of course. He’s an experienced player that’s played for his country a hundred times and scored goals at the top level. So any advice from him you would have to listen to."
