Significant update on eco activist’s dirty protest in Rishi Sunak’s duck pond

An eco yob who staged a dirty protest in former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s duck pond will face no further action, it has been confirmed.

Just Stop Oil activist Oliver Clegg, 21, and three others were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass at the ex-Tory leader’s manor house in Richmond, North Yorks.

His other group, Youth Demand, has revealed police recently told Clegg he will not be charged.

A message read: “Last year, Oliver took a dump in Rishi Sunak’s lake as a leaving gift for the Tories, and was arrested, along with members of the press, on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

“They seized all camera equipment from photojournalist Guy Smallman, who was only able to get these back months and months later.

“Just before Christmas, they went back to the police station to find they would not be charged, and given No Further Action.”

One supporter among the group’s Instagram followers gloated: “Brilliant!!! Taking no ‘s***’ from the Tories paid off.”

Tory MP Sir John Hayes said: “I’m surprised the police are not taking action. Protest is important in politics, but must be appropriate.”

The property, which was built in 1826, was bought by Mr Sunak, 44, after he became the Conservative MP for the Richmond constituency in 2015.

Police arrested four men within the grounds of the PM’s home on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

Clegg, from Manchester and fellow alleged trespassers, aged 52 from London, 43 from Bolton, and 20 from Chichester were taken into police custody.

The charging decision comes amid claims of “two-tier” justice which has seen right-wing online protesters jailed for inciting hatred with internet posts and anti-immigration violence.

The Crown Prosecution Service was approached for comment over the incident in June last year.
