Woman hails 44p hack to melt kettle limescale - and it's 'better than vinegar'

If you're morning brews are stating to taste a little funky, you can probably blame limescale.

Overtime, the minerals found in our water such as calcium and magnesium can start to build up, leaving behind an unsightly yellow stain on the inside of the kettle. Whilst this isn't necessarily bad for your health - it can tarnish the taste of your cuppa and reduce the lifespan of your appliance.

Many cleaning experts recommend using white vinegar - a houshold staple that can be great for descaling due to its acidity. However, this can leave behind a rather unsual smell and can affect the taste of your hot drinks. Luckily, there's a cheap alternative that 'works every time'.

Taking to TikTok, user B Cleans shows how she transforms her kettle from 'bogging to beautiful' in just 10 minutes. The content creator, who has amassed more than 92,000 followers for her cleaning tutorials and handy tips, says vinegar hasn't been able to lift the stubborn limescale.

"I honestly couldn't tell you the last time I cleaned it," she said, showing off the mineral buildup in her kettle. "[I've] obviously used other methods but believe me, nothing beats citric acid for me."

B Cleans simply adds two tablespoons of the Elbow Grease Citric Acid to a full kettle and lets it rest for 10 minutes after boiling. Then, she pours the water out and gives the kettle a rinse, revealing a sparkling new inside.

Viewers rushed to the comments section to praise the results, with many stating they would rush to the supermarket to pick the product up. "I need some of that," one user wrote. Another agreed, commenting: "Deffo going to get some," while a third added: "That's come up like new!"
