Rasmus Hojlund's interview has provoked an angry response

A Manchester United fan channel has reportedly been the subject of death threats following an interview with Red Devils striker Rasmus Hojlund.

The Danish forward made a promise to go on divisive channel The United Stand in the summer and followed through on that - despite some of his teammates allegedly being unhappy about it. The United Stand has been particularly critical of the players' performance this term with the channel's owner and presenter, Mark Goldbridge, at the forefront of that.

Hojlund spoke on the channel last month, but since then, The United Stand say the channel has received death threats warning Goldbridge that he is "a dead man walking" and threatening to harm him if he turns up to game at Old Trafford.

As a result police, were called and security has been increased with messages on social media mentioning other members of staff and the exact location of the studio where the channel is filmed. Staff have become used to the social media pile-on, but even they were said to be stunned by the reaction.

Goldbridge told the Daily Mail : "I totally understand that football is a passionate and divisive sport, and that people are free to decide and have an opinion on what content they consume. However, the pile-on some of our staff were subject to over the weekend was incredibly sad to witness. To be threatening people's lives yet again evidences the vile pack mentality that exists on social media."

The United Stand is the club's most watched fan channel and has built up a global audience of 1.83m on YouTube and 2.3m followers on Twitter following its launch by Goldbridge – real name Brent Di Cesare – a decade ago.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police read: "Officers have spoken with the victim and relevant information has been passed over to the police. Enquiries are ongoing at this stage."

Hojlund, who was a boyhood follower of The United Stand, reportedly understands why some teammates were unhappy over the interview and he had no intention of upsetting them. His interview has led to dressing-room banter rather than any serious tension between the players.

The Dane, after a slow start to life following his pricey move from Atalanta, has begun finding the net with regularity. Hojlund is currently out injured but recently scored six times in five Premier League outings as he begins to underline his quality.
