When you think of a day out in Newmarket, you might picture the famous horse races or the museum.
But now, there's a hilarious new attraction see on Tripadvisor dubbed the 'Newmarket puddle'. Drivers have been having a laugh by making a Tripadvisor page dedicated for the huge puddle stretching across the A14 following heavy rainfall. The flooding has seen lane closures over the past few weeks with around five Olympic-sized swimming pools worth of water being pumped away.
The lanes reopened on Thursday, but cars are restricted to only 40mph. A National Highways spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience caused by the closure and said the organisation aims to fully reopen the road as soon as possible. The joke page about the Newmarket Puddle is now number 10 on the list of cool things to see in the town.
It has more than 30 ratings, with 15 of those rating it as 'excellent', reports Cambridgeshire Live. One funny review called it the 'A14 sea'. The reviewer wrote: "Wish I had put my wetsuit on. Very lively with fishers, bodyboarding and even a couple of surfers," but they joked there's nowhere to buy beach stuff and no toilets or places to eat.
While some visitors were less than impressed, one person shared their disappointment that the view of the puddle was obstructed by work vans and tankers. They revealed they waited in line for two hours to see the puddle "but there wasn't any water when I got there".

Another person made fun, saying: "Brilliant watering hole for road tankers, a real treat to see them up close and drinking. Would recommend to anyone who likes lorries!".
Martin Fellows, regional director of National Highways, said: "This flooding issue continues to be a regional priority, and we are seeking assistance from all parties. Our roads keep the country moving, keep families connected and businesses in business, so our roadworkers are vital to everyone's wellbeing, and their wellbeing is vital to us."
