Cillian Murphy has won the Best Actor award at the 96th Academy Awards.
The Oscars, which were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood tonight, celebrated the greatest excellence in cinematic achievements, with the award ceremony packed full of famous faces galore. And CIllian was celebrated in a big way for his role in the hit 2023 movie Oppenheimer.
Cillian Murphy was up against the likes of Bradley Cooper in the hit biopic Maestro; Colman Domingo in Rustin; Paul Giamatti in The Holdovers; and Jeffrey Wright in American Fiction.

This award is Cillian's first Oscar nomination and win. The star was shocked as he went up to accept the award, admitting: "I'm a little overwhelmed."

"Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas, it's been the most wildest, most exhilarating, creatively, satisfying journey you've taken me on over the last 20 years. I owe you more than I can say," he continued, "Every single crew member, every single cast member on Oppenheimer, you guys carried me through. All my fellow nominees I remain in awe of you guys truly."
Cillian admitted he was 'overwhelmed' as he won (AFP via Getty Images)He thanked his wife who he sat next to during the show and his two sons who were also in the audience. "I'm a very proud Irish man standing here tonight," he added.
The star finished his speech by saying: "You know we made a film about the man who created the atomic bomb and for better or for worse we're living in Oppenheimer's world so I'd really like to dedicate this award to the peacemakers."

Meanwhile, in the Best Actress category, the nominees were: Annette Bening for her role in Nyad; Lily Gladstone in Killers of the Flower Moon; Sandra Huller in Anatomy of a Fall; Carey Mulligan for her role in Maestro; and Emma Stone for her leading role in the hit movie Poor Things. Emma ended up winning the award and giving a tearful speech on stage.
