Weddings are often expensive and often a whole family affair, and they inevitably throw up problems that are tricky to circumvent.
From the rings, the cake and food, the venue and invites, everything in a wedding costs a lot however, the dress can take up a huge part of the budget, so choosing something pre-loved is a good option. Some may even ask family members to borrow their wedding dress, but when one bride-to-be messaged her auntie and asked if she could borrow her 30-year-old gown, she wasn't met with tears of joy.
Instead, her aunt was left outraged, and she spoke to her sister, telling her off for sharing that she had a dress lying around. Taking to social media one aunt asked: "Would I be the a**hole, my niece wants my wedding dress and I think I am going to say no."
In the post, she said: "I married 30 years ago and was lucky enough to have a custom-made dress. I was very thin at the time and the dress design I chose was not typical 90s. Think more regency style dress."
She says her daughter has "boobs and a butt that women pay good money for," and wasn't anticipating her daughter fitting into her dress, however, her niece is the same body type as her. Even still the auntie did not want to give her niece the dress, as she wasn't too fond of her, describing her as an "unemployed hypochondriac" and an "attention seeker."
'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'
In her post, she says: "I don't like this girl. She is immature for a 27-year-old, she is an attention seeker and intentionally unemployed hypochondriac. She's one of those people on Facebook who posts cryptic comments and when someone enquires what's wrong, she responds with 'I'll message you, hun'.
"I dread any family events with her attendance because guaranteed she will become ill at some point (and her mum will have to take her home or find her a room 'to rest') or talk over the speeches or demand to dance with the host. Every. Time. It gets old."
She explained that she wasn't "sentimental" about things, but she didn't want to see it on her niece, but equally, she didn't want the "drama" if she said no.
People defended the woman, saying: "It's your dress. Also, your daughter could add fabric to the dress and wear it herself." Someone else said: "Don't lend it to her. She sounds like the type that will alter it beyond recognition to make it 'her own'."
